Vanilla Version of R GUI interface is not that appealing and it is a little cumbersome. So, an alternative is to use RStudio. RStudio is a development environment for R with a nice front-end.It has a console where we can type in the commands, a scripting window, a graphics window, and an R workspace.
Problem:
- Download R from CRAN and install R on your Mac. Steps are mentioned in one of my previous post here.
- Download RStudio from http://rstudio.com. To download RStudio on Mac please follow the below steps:
R-studio For Mac 10.10
- Click on the Download Link under 'RStudio Desktop'
- List of Installers will be displayed. Select The version for Mac and a .dmg file will be downloaded
- Click on the 'Download R for (Mac) OS X' link at the top of the page. Click on the file containing the latest version of R under 'Files.' Save the.pkg file, double-click it to open, and follow the installation instructions. Now that R is installed, you need to download and install RStudio. To Install RStudio.
- Download R-Studio 6.5.5943 for Mac from our software library for free. The size of the latest installation package available for download is 71.3 MB. The most popular versions of the software are 3.0 and 2.6. This Mac download was checked by our built-in antivirus and was rated as clean.
- To load R, choose the MacOS link from the CRAN website above. From the resulting page (called 'R for Mac OS X') choose the.pkg file that matches your version of the operating system – usually this is the first one. Download that package, click on the.pkg file once it has downloaded fully, and follow instructions on the screen.
Download RStudio. RStudio is currently only available for Mac OS X 10.6 or higher. Click on RStudio for Mac OS X 10.6+. Click on the appropriate file corresponding to Mac OS X. This will again bring up the save file dialog.

3. Install RStudio from the downloaded .dmg file
4. Drag the Studio(R) icon to the Applications folder
